Service Overview

Advance Care Planning (ACP) is a meaningful process of communication and foresight. It allows you to reflect on and express your future healthcare preferences while you still possess decision-making capacity. FAQs

What is the difference between ACP and an AD?

Advance Care Planning (ACP) is an ongoing process of communication and planning, involving discussion and reflection on your values. Advance Directive (AD) is a formal legal document that can be created because of the ACP process. It legally protects your right to refuse life-sustaining treatments.

Is an AD legally binding in Hong Kong?

Yes. Since the Advance Decision on Life-Sustaining Treatment Ordinance came into effect in 2024, an AD that has been signed in accordance with the necessary legal requirements has been legally binding. Our team is well-versed in the relevant legislation and will ensure that your directive meets all the necessary standards.

When is the best time to discuss ACP?

Any time -- the earlier, the better. It is best to reflect on these matters while you are healthy and of sound mind. However, starting these discussions with your family and medical team becomes particularly vital following a diagnosis of a serious illness.
